ESP32-Based
Desk-Top Stock Terminal
The project
The Stock Terminal Prototype
Over the summer, I worked on a prototype desk-top stock terminal designed as a small consumer electronic device.
The terminal is based on an ESP32 and uses an LCD screen, capacitive touch sensor, rechargeable battery, and physical power switch to display 15-minute delayed stock prices. During setup, the ESP32 creates its own Wi-Fi network. The user connects to it, opens a local setup page, chooses which stock tickers to display, and enters their home Wi-Fi information. The terminal then connects to the internet and fetches stock data through a Yahoo Finance API.
The touch sensor is mounted inside the top of the enclosure, so tapping the outside of the case changes the displayed stock chart. A 5 V voltage booster and USB-C charging module allow the device to operate cordlessly from its rechargeable battery.
PCB to Reduce Wiring
I also designed a simple PCB to connect the ESP32 to the LCD, touch sensor, and 5 V power input. This gave me hands-on experience with PCB design, embedded systems, and soldering.
